| The conflict in Darfur is said to be getting worse. Sudanese air forces and militia have allegedly renewed attacking villages and camps for internally displaced people.Thousands of destitute refugees are now running away towards the Chadian border, which is another dangerous situation. The UN sees this as a warning of an imminent wave of violence. The worsening security situation has now further complicated the daunting challenge faced by the humanitarian agencies in Darfur. The Security Council warns that the attacks are hurting the chances of a political settlement in Sudan which are pursued by the world body and the African Union. They are calling on the Sudanese government and the rebels to commit themselves to the obligations of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement or the CPA which was signed At least 200 thousand people have been killed and over two million others displaced since the fighting began five years ago. |
